Founded in the 15th century, the Hospices de Beaune was originally a Hôtel-Dieu. Administered by the Church, the hospital received orphans, the destitute and other pilgrims.
Today, the Hospices de Beaune has become one of the major emblems of the Burgundy region attracting large numbers of visitors every year.
Through donations and inheritances from wealthy Burgundian lords, the Hospices de Beaune became the owners of a vineyard of almost 60 hectares in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, with most of the plots located in appellation areas ofPremiers Crus ou Exceptional Grand Crus
These prestigious vintages have been sold by auction since 1794, and the Hospices de Beaune auctions have become a not-to-be-missed event for the greatest lovers of Vins de Bourgogne. Year after year, the sales reach new records, such as for the 2021 vintage, despite the lowest number of lots presented, and give a boost to the entire Burgundy wine market.
